1) How did you react when Junior decided to leave the reservation? Do you think he made the right decision? Did it seem like he decided kind of quickly?
2) What do you think about the fight "Arnold" (Junior) gets into with Roger? Did you think Roger's reaction was weird? Why did Arnold seem confused? Are there really "rules" of fighting?

ReplyDelete1) I was very surprised when he decided to leave the reservation and I was very surprised he made up his mind so fast and didn’t even give it a second thought. Also why is he trusting this old man maybe he is just trying to get revenge for throwing the book at his face.
He probably trust the old man because the old man is just putting into words, what he is feeling and/or saying. He is the person that starts Junior's "Hero's Journey". The mentor (teacher), who gives him a boon (the whole idea of transferring).
DeleteI felt a mix of emotions when Juninor decided to leave the rez. I felt anger at the people who bullied him, happy that he was choosing his own path, nervous about what was going to happen to him, and excited at what he could achieve. I think that he made the only decision that he thought was possible. I think that it was right, because the benefits of being a Native American in an all white school outweigh the benefits of being a "disabled" Native American at a Native American School. At least, that was the case for him. On the reservation, he was looked down upon. He was beat up physically, mentally, psychologically, emotionally, and morally. He was made fun of. At the white school, all that has happened is that he has been called names. They are afraid of him, because they don't know about him. If i were him, I would have made the same decision. He is trying to stray from the beaten path, to achieve what the others cannot. He is not a coward to run from his people, but courageous, for running to those he does not know. He did not make a hasty decision, he made an intelligent decison.
ReplyDelete1. When Junior left the reservation, I was speechless. I didn’t think he would even consider leaving the reservation because he already gets picked on a lot, so he will probably get picked on a lot more being the only Indian at an all white school. I do think he made the right decision though because even though he might get picked on more, he wants to learn more which will benefit his future. I do think he may have rushed the decision, however, if he didn’t leave then he might have never left.
ReplyDelete1. When junior left the reservation I was proud of him for doing so. He was bullied by everybody; it didn’t matter if it was the kids at school or some of the grownups. I don’t think he would have ever left if his teacher Mr. P told him to. Junior asked his parents to transfer to a different school, which is 22 miles away from the reservation
ReplyDeleteI agree with you becasue it made life easier on him, but it made it harder for his parents to drive 22 miles to take him to school. But it makes him feel better that he left the Reservation.
Delete1. When Junior left the Reservation I was really shocked because he has had a hard life as is and for him to go to a different school for white people that was hard for him. He started from the bottom like he did at the other school. I am glad that Junior hit Mr.P in the nose for he would have never told Junior about leaving. It was hard for Juniors parent s to drive 22 miles every day just for school
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mathew because I dont think Junior would have ever recieved the drive or determination unless Mr. P advised him to.
