Reading Assignment #2B

Comment on this post with your thoughts on the following:

What are Arnold's reasons for leaving the reservation?  Can you understand why he chooses to leave? Which reasons do you think are the best reasons to leave?  If you had reasons for leaving the school in your town, what would they be?

  1. Arnold is tired of being abused by his peers, whether it is physcially, emotionally, or mentally. He wants to better his future, in hopes that one day, he will achieve what his sister and family did not. To not have to live in poverty. These are both outstanding reasons. If you had to live in fear, every day, would you want to stay. To live in fear of your peers, of not having enough food, of never being able to strive. Would you stay? If you ahd a chance to be able to reach for the stars, to conquer your dreams, would you take it? I would, i can empathize with Junior, and that is why I agree with his reasoning.
If I were to leave this school, it would probably be because of the people in it. I am not saying that everyone in our school are bad people, but the ones who are bad, are the worst. That is why I would leave.

    1. I would agree and that's one thing i forgot in my post is that he hopes he can carry on what his sister wanted to do and he is very tired of being treated like he is a bad person when he really isn't.

    2. I agree with Greg because junior wasnt getting the respect he deserves and if he stayed in the reservation i dont think he would go anywhere in life.

  2. Reading assignment 2b

He decided to leave the reservation because his teacher that he hit in the face with a book told him that he has hurt Indians in the past and he said he should leave as soon as possible before he gets killed. And I can understand because he is probably really scared because I know if my life was possibly in danger I would be scared. His life in danger is probably the best reason to leave and I wouldn’t leave my school unless I was being treated really horribly or my life was in danger just because I’m in this school it would be hard but it would have to happen.

  3. Junior wanted to leave the reservation for several reasons. He wanted to go to Reardan so he could find something. He also wanted to go so he could get a better education and to have a better life than his parents, his friends, and all the other Indians on the reservation. I understand why he left because if I was at a bad school that didn’t teach me much, it might decide my future. I don’t want my school or someone to decide my future; I want to choose my own fate. I would only leave this school if I got kicked out.

  4. Junior wanted to leave the reservation because he was abused by his peers every day; he had only one friend, his parents drink. Junior wants to be an artist and he thinks staying in the reservation will prevent that from happening. So he asks his parents to transfer him to Reardon. Junior thinks leaving the Rez will give him a new start.
